January Newsletter - Open gym times...

January 1, 2014
OPEN GYMS
The first open gym of the year is Sat 1/04 We only have access to the 7/8-grade gym that day, so the 8U/10U girls will practice from 9am to 10:30am; and the 12U/14U girls will practice from 10:30am to noon. As a result there will NOT be a pitchers/catchers practice the first week.

(I believe you'll still have to enter the building near the 5/6-grade gym and then walk to the 7/8 gym.)

Note that a registration table will be set up at the Middle School throughout the morning.

As always, you do NOT need to be registered to attend open gyms.  Girls may use the open gyms as a means to see if they enjoy the sport and want to register.

Open Gym dates:  1/4, 1/11, 1/18, 2/1, 2/15*, 2/22, 3/1, 3/15, 3/22.

* The 2/15 date may have to be canceled.

OPEN GYM HELP WANTED
Help from as many coaches as possible to run the open gyms would be appreciated.

Also, we'll need a couple of people gracious enough to sit at the "Info Desk" throughout the entire 3 hours of every open gym to collect registration forms, hand out Lotto Calendars, etc.  If you're willing to help, please let me know!

FGSA REGISTRATION
Don't forget to get your FGSA Registration in.  (See file attached to this email.)  If you have any questions about filling it out, feel free to email or call me.  Completed forms can be mailed in to the address at the top of the form, or save yourself a stamp and drop it in my mailbox.  Or you can bring it to any of the open gyms.

Deadline for registration is 1/24/14.

LOTTO CALENDARS
All girls must sell a minimum of (2) Lottery Calendars as part of their registration.  Each calendar is $20.  They are available now.  You can pick them up from me at my house, or at any of the Open Gyms.

BIRTH CERTIFICATES
Any girl who hasn't previously submitted their birth certificate, should do so before the Spring season begins.  If you aren't sure if you submitted it, check with our information desk at any open gym.

CHILD ABUSE CHECK / CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK CLEARANCES
Any parent who intends to coach, assistant coach or be a "parent helper" during games or practices must submit their Child Abuse and Criminal Background Check clearances to the FGSA.  If you've submitted yours in the past and its dated within the last 3 years, you do not need to resubmit.  If you aren't sure if you submitted it in the past, or if you aren't sure if it's within the last 3 years, check with our information desk at any open gym.  Do NOT wait until the last minute to do this!  It takes a month or 2 to turn the paperwork around.

Getting the Criminal Background check is easy.  You can do it electronically for just $10 here...
The website says the turn-around is up to 2 weeks, but mine was returned within 24 hours.

Alternatively, you could mail it in using this form...

You need to get your criminal background check completed FIRST to submit for your Child Abuse History Clearance.  You cannot do this electronically for some dumb reason.  It must be mailed in, and requires a $10 Money Order.  And, remember, as I said, you must submit a copy of your Criminal Background check along with this form, so you need to get that first.  Turn around is up to 4 weeks, so don't wait too much longer!

FGSA FACEBOOK PAGE
Don't forget about the FGSA FaceBook page!  You can find all of the latest FGSA info, plus a calendar of future events, and photos of past events.  And I've been posting tutorial videos as I stumble on them.

APPLEBEE'S PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Mark your calendars!  The FGSA Applebee's Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for Sat 4/12.

FGSA POOL PARTY @ THE READING FIGHTIN PHILS
Mark your calendars!  The FGSA Pool Party is Thursday, 6/12.  Cost is $24 per person.  That includes entry to the game, access to the pool area, the all-you-can-eat buffet...and the girls will be on the field in uniform with the R-Phils players during the National Anthem.  You can sign up for this event at our Open Gym info desk.  Payment is accepted any time but must be received by April.

PRO-PHOTOGRAPHER OR NO PRO-PHOTOGRAPHER
Last year we did not hire a pro-photographer.  There is some debate about whether or not to use one in 2014.  Give this some thought, and provide us with your feedback!
